Overview

RAD51 associated protein 2 (RAD51AP2) is a vertebrate and meiotic-specific large protein (1159 amino acids) that interacts specifically with the recombinase RAD51 through a conserved C-terminal motif also shared with RAD51AP1[1][2]. RAD51AP2 is expressed predominantly in meiotic tissues such as the adult testis and fetal ovary, and is not found in mitotic somatic cells, even after DNA damage[1][2]. The biological function of RAD51AP2 appears to be specialized in supporting homologous recombination during meiosis, potentially mediating RAD51 function in meiotic synapsis or strand exchange, but it is not part of common therapeutic target classes such as receptors or enzymes[1][2][3]. RAD51AP2 is not a known direct target of therapeutic drugs, nor is it a well-established biomarker for disease or therapy, though associations with reproductive tract cancers have been reported[3].

Biological functions

Meiotic recombinationDNA repair (homologous recombination)
03

Disease associations

Cancer (notably, associated with certain reproductive malignancies, e.g., Fallopian tube adenocarcinoma)
04

Safety considerations

not applicable due to lack of direct therapeutic targeting; also, highly tissue-specific expression restricts off-target risks
