Overview

RDM1 pseudogene 5 (RDM1P5) is a pseudogene related to the RAD52 motif containing 1 gene. Unlike the parent RDM1 protein—which contains a RAD52 motif involved in cellular response to cisplatin and DNA/RNA binding[3]—the pseudogene is not known to encode a functional protein. Some pseudogenes are transcribed and may regulate their parental genes through RNA-mediated mechanisms, such as acting as miRNA decoys or regulating mRNA stability[2][4][6][7]. There are no data supporting RDM1P5 as a direct protein-coding therapeutic target, no evidence for disease association, biomarker utility, or known drug interactions.

Biological functions

Possible regulatory RNA functions (e.g., miRNA decoy, antisense RNA, competing endogenous RNA)Null for classical protein functions such as DNA repair, which is attributed to the parent gene RDM1, not the pseudogene.
03

Disease associations

Pseudogenes have been implicated as regulatory elements in cancer in general; however, there is no direct evidence of RDM1P5 in any specific disease
