Overview

RAD52 motif-containing protein 1 (RDM1) is a protein involved in the cellular response to DNA damage, particularly in the repair of double-strand breaks through homologous recombination [10.3.1, 10.3.4]. It contains a conserved RAD52 motif and an RNA recognition motif (RRM), allowing it to bind both DNA and RNA [10.3.3, 10.3.4]. RDM1 has been identified as a significant factor in cancer progression and chemoresistance, specifically conferring resistance to the antitumor agent cisplatin [10.3.1, 10.3.2]. Studies have shown that RDM1 is overexpressed in several malignancies, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and ovarian cancer, where it promotes cell proliferation and inhibits apoptosis [10.3.1, 10.3.2]. Due to its role in protecting cancer cells from platinum-induced DNA damage, RDM1 is considered a potential therapeutic target for overcoming drug resistance in oncology [10.3.1, 10.3.2]. Research into specific small-molecule inhibitors of RDM1 is currently in the early stages, with the goal of sensitizing tumors to conventional chemotherapy [10.3.1].
