Overview

RAD52 pseudogene 1 (RAD52P1) is a genomic DNA segment similar to the functional RAD52 gene but does not encode a functional protein product. Unlike its protein-coding counterpart (RAD52 homolog, DNA repair protein), which is essential in DNA double-strand break repair and homologous recombination[7], RAD52P1 does not contribute to DNA repair or participate in related molecular pathways. It is sometimes mentioned in genome and gene databases as a non-functional locus and is not considered a target for therapeutic intervention or drug development. The actual DNA repair functions belong to the RAD52 gene, not its pseudogenes[7].
