Overview

RAF1 pseudogene 1 (RAF1P1) is a non-coding sequence in the human genome that is homologous to the protein-coding RAF1 gene (also known as c-Raf or v-raf-1 murine leukemia viral oncogene homolog 1). As a pseudogene, RAF1P1 does not encode a functional protein and has no established biological function, molecular activity, or role as a therapeutic target. It should not be confused with the canonical and active RAF1 gene, which codes for a serine/threonine kinase of major significance in cell signaling and oncogenesis. No current evidence implicates RAF1P1 (the pseudogene) in disease, biomarker use, drug interaction, or safety concern. The protein-coding gene RAF1 is distinct and acts as a serine/threonine kinase in the MAPK pathway, playing roles in cell proliferation, cell survival, and is commonly targeted in cancer research and therapy. Pseudogenes such as RAF1P1 are often remnants of genome evolution and are not targets for drugs or disease research.
