Overview

Ran guanine nucleotide release factor (RANGRF), also known as MOG1, is a regulatory protein that plays a critical role in promoting guanine nucleotide release from the small GTPase RAN, thereby regulating nuclear transport and mitotic spindle dynamics. RANGRF is essential for the proper cell surface expression and function of the cardiac sodium channel Na(v)1.5 (encoded by SCN5A) in cardiomyocytes and regulates membrane localization of this channel, which is crucial for normal cardiac conduction and rhythm. Mutations in RANGRF have been implicated in cardiac arrhythmias, including Brugada syndrome, by disrupting sodium channel trafficking and impairing cardiac action potential propagation[1][2][3][5][7].
