Overview

RANBP2-like and GRIP domain-containing protein 8 (RGPD8) is a protein-coding gene located on human chromosome 2q14 and encodes a member of the tetratricopeptide repeat domain-containing family. It is predicted to bind small GTPases and contribute to GTPase activator activity, implicating a role in nuclear import processes, particularly the import of nuclear localization signal (NLS)-bearing proteins into the nucleus. RGPD8 is suggested to function as part of the nuclear pore complex and may be active in the cytoplasm. Although RGPD8 is structurally and functionally similar to RANBP2 (Nup358), there are no reports of RGPD8 as a therapeutic drug target, receptor, or established disease gene. Its principal biological roles are thought to relate to nucleocytoplasmic transport and intracellular protein complexes rather than direct involvement in signal transduction or disease pathophysiology.
