RAP1A, member of RAS oncogene family pseudogene (RAP1AP)

RAP1AP is a pseudogene corresponding to the functional gene RAP1A, a member of the Ras oncogene family. Unlike the functional RAP1A gene, RAP1AP does not code for an active protein and does not serve as a molecular target (receptor, enzyme, etc.) in therapeutic or biological contexts. Its existence reflects a nonfunctional copy of the original gene, and it has no known biological functions, disease associations, or therapeutic relevance[1][2]. RAP1AP (pseudogene) should not be confused with RAP1A (Ras-related protein Rap-1A / KREV1), which is a small GTPase involved in signal transduction, cell adhesion, and cell proliferation, and is a bona fide molecular target with established biological and disease roles[3][4][7][9]. RAP1AP, by contrast, is not a therapeutic target.
