Overview

Rapidly dividing cell is not a canonical molecular target, receptor, or specific protein, but rather a descriptive term for any cell population undergoing frequent cell division. Such cells are commonly found during embryonic development, tissue regeneration, and in pathological contexts like cancer. These cells are characterized by high rates of DNA synthesis, chromatin remodeling, and reduced levels of certain inhibitory histone modifications, making them epigenetically dynamic[1][5]. In cancer, cells that divide rapidly are often the primary targets of cytotoxic chemotherapies. The term does not refer to a specific molecular entity, but instead describes a physiological state or feature of a cell population[1][3][5].
