mTORC1 (mechanistic/mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1) is a multi-protein complex that acts as a central regulator of cell growth, metabolism, and survival. It functions primarily as a nutrient/energy/redox sensor and controls protein synthesis in response to various environmental cues such as nutrients, energy status, oxygen levels, and growth factors. mTORC1 is acutely sensitive to inhibition by the drug rapamycin.
mTORC1 inhibitors block the kinase activity of mTOR, disrupting downstream signaling pathways involved in cell growth, proliferation, and metabolism.
