Ras and EF-hand domain-containing protein (RASEF) is a member of the Rab family of small GTPases, featuring an N-terminal EF-hand domain, a central coiled-coil motif, and a C-terminal Rab domain[2]. The protein primarily binds GDP and also GTP, and functions as a dynein adapter to activate and regulate dynein-mediated transport on microtubules[2]. RASEF participates in regulation of intracellular membrane trafficking. It displays calcium ion binding (through the EF-hand domain) and GTPase activity (through the Rab domain)[2]. There is evidence to suggest a possible role in tumor suppression, with disease associations including certain cancers such as cutaneous adenocystic carcinoma[2].\n\nNo known directly interacting drugs, established biomarkers, or major safety concerns have been robustly described in current reference databases. RASEF is considered a valid molecular target for research due to its link to vesicular transport and cancer biology, though it is not a typical druggable target in current clinical pharmacology.
