Overview

Ras-like protein family member 11A (RASL11A) is a small GTPase-like protein in the Ras superfamily but with atypical features, including the absence of the prenylation motif found in canonical Ras proteins. Unlike most Ras GTPases which associate with membranes, RASL11A localizes to the nucleolus and is found in complex with the transcription factor UBF, associating with active ribosomal DNA (rDNA) repeats throughout the cell cycle. It functions as a positive regulator of transcription by RNA polymerase I, thereby modulating pre-rRNA synthesis. RASL11A is not essential for cell proliferation but may act as an accessory chromatin-associated regulator of ribosomal gene transcription, potentially mediating upstream regulatory stimuli within the nucleolus. Its role appears to be non-essential and possibly redundant with related proteins such as RASL11B. There is currently no evidence that RASL11A is directly targeted by known drugs, nor is it widely recognized as a therapeutic or diagnostic target[1][3][5][6].
