RAS Oncogene Protein (RAS)

Target
RAS
Molecular classification
Small GTPase, Oncogene
01

Overview

The RAS oncogene protein refers to a family of small GTPases (HRAS, KRAS, and NRAS) that act as molecular switches in numerous cellular signaling pathways. Mutations in these genes are among the most common genetic alterations found in human cancers, leading to constitutive activation of RAS and driving uncontrolled cell growth, proliferation, and survival. RAS regulates multiple key pathways including Raf-MEK-ERK and PI3K-AKT. It has long been considered a challenging target, but recent advances have begun exploring direct targeting strategies.
