RAS proteins are small GTPases that act as binary molecular switches, cycling between an active (GTP-bound) and inactive (GDP-bound) state. They play a central role in transmitting signals from cell surface receptors to intracellular signaling pathways, thereby regulating key cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, cytoskeletal organization, adhesion, and migration. Mutations in RAS genes, especially KRAS, are among the most common oncogenic events in human cancers, leading to uncontrolled cell growth and tumorigenesis.
