Overview

The RAS proto-oncogene family (HRAS, KRAS, NRAS) encodes small GTPase proteins that function as molecular switches in intracellular signaling pathways, regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. Mutations in RAS genes, particularly at codons 12, 13, or 61, lead to constitutive activation of the RAS protein, driving uncontrolled cell growth and contributing to the development of various cancers. Activated RAS triggers downstream pathways like MAPK/ERK and PI3K/AKT, modulating gene expression and cellular behavior.
