RAB21
Molecular classification

Overview

Ras-related protein Rab-21 (RAB21) is a member of the Rab family of small GTPases within the Ras superfamily, involved in the regulation of intracellular membrane trafficking[1][4]. It is essential for the endocytic trafficking and recycling of integrins, affecting cell adhesion, migration, and cytokinesis, and has been implicated in processes such as autophagy, endosomal sorting, and receptor turnover, including that of the epidermal growth factor receptor and Toll-like receptor 4[1][2][4]. RAB21 dysregulation is associated with poor prognosis in glioma and other cancers, and may play roles in neurodevelopment and immune response by orchestrating specific endosomal sorting pathways[1][2][4]. No specific drugs directly targeting RAB21 are approved; research suggests its disease associations and cellular roles make it a potential therapeutic target and biomarker in cancer and possibly neurodegenerative disease[1][4].
