Overview

Ras-related protein Rab-33A (RAB33A) is a member of the small GTPase superfamily, Rab family. This protein functions as a GTP-binding GTPase and is involved in vesicle transport and regulation of intracellular membrane trafficking. Expression is seen in several brain regions. Mutations in RAB33A are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, X-linked recessive type 4, with or without cerebellar ataxia. There is no evidence to support its status as a direct therapeutic target or a receptor, but it plays an essential cellular role in vesicular transport processes.
