Overview
Ras-related protein Rab-40A is a small intracellular GTPase belonging to the Rab family. It carries a C-terminal SOCS box that suggests it may act as a substrate-recognition component of a SOCS-box E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, mediating ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of target proteins. It is implicated in intracellular membrane trafficking, particularly in vesicle biogenesis, transport, and fusion. Mutations or altered expression of RAB40A have been associated with various diseases, including certain cancers and rare syndromes such as Martin-Probst syndrome, but there is currently no evidence for therapeutic targeting or biomarker utility.
