Overview

Ras-related protein Rab-6B (RAB6B) is a member of the Rab family of small GTPases, which are key regulators of intracellular membrane trafficking, specifically from the formation of transport vesicles to their fusion with target membranes. RAB6B cycles between active (GTP-bound) and inactive (GDP-bound) states and is involved in Golgi apparatus organization, retrograde transport at the Golgi complex, and protein localization to the Golgi membrane. RAB6B is predominantly expressed in the brain (notably in microglia, pericytes, and Purkinje cells) and displays tissue and cell-type specificity. It plays a role in neuron projection development and may function in retrograde transport in neuronal cells. RAB6B is dysregulated in various tumors, has been associated with hepatocellular carcinoma, and can serve as a potential prognostic and diagnostic biomarker for HCC. Mutations or altered expression of RAB6B are linked to Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2K and Cohen syndrome
