Overview

Ras-related protein Rab-7b (RAB7B) is a small GTPase of the Rab family primarily involved in the regulation of intracellular membrane trafficking, including the transport of cargo from late endosomes to the trans-Golgi network and lysosomes[2][3][5]. RAB7B is selectively expressed in monocytic cells, is important for managing inflammatory signaling through promoting the degradation of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), and modulates autophagic flux by interacting with components such as Atg4B[1][3]. In addition to roles in immune responses and vesicle transport, RAB7B also influences actin cytoskeleton organization and cell migration[1][2]. Some studies have linked RAB7B expression or function to disease processes such as cancer (via autophagy regulation), inflammation, and infection, mostly through its regulatory effects on endosomal and lysosomal pathways[1][2][5]. There are currently no recognized drugs or therapeutic compounds that selectively target RAB7B, and it is not considered a major direct therapeutic target in current biomedical literature[5].
