Ras-related protein Rap-1A (RAP1A) is a small GTPase in the Ras family, encoded by the RAP1A gene on human chromosome 1. RAP1A shares about 50% amino acid identity with classical Ras proteins and features distinct structural characteristics, notably a threonine at position 61 instead of the glutamine found in Ras. RAP1A functions mainly as a regulator of cell adhesion, polarity, and proliferation, often counteracting Ras-mediated mitogenic and oncogenic signaling by competing for effectors such as RAF and Ras GAPs. It is a key player in cell signaling related to growth factors and integrin-mediated adhesion, and its dysregulation has been implicated in cancer and other disorders involving abnormal cell proliferation and migration
