Ras-related protein Rap-2c (RAP2C) is a member of the Ras oncogene family of small GTPases, which act as molecular switches in signal transduction pathways. RAP2C, along with RAP2A and RAP2B, regulates a variety of cellular processes including cytoskeletal organization, cell adhesion, migration, and invasion, critical for both physiological and pathological conditions. Recent evidence shows that RAP2C promotes migration and invasion of cancer cells, acting via upregulation of MMP2 activity and stimulation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, but does not impact cell proliferation or apoptosis. Its role in facilitating cancer cell motility and metastatic potential makes RAP2C a candidate therapeutic target, though no approved drugs selectively target it yet.
Drugs or inhibitors targeting RAP2C would likely modulate its GTPase activity, thereby affecting cell migration/invasion signaling pathways such as increased MMP2 production and PI3K/Akt-mediated cell motility
