Ras responsive element binding protein 1 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (specifically, Pseudogene)
01

Overview

A pseudogene is a DNA sequence similar to a known gene but rendered non-functional through mutation, truncation, or loss of control elements[2][5]. The "ras responsive element binding protein 1 pseudogene" (ENSG00000287002) is a *nonfunctional genomic DNA element* derived from the *RREB1* gene, which itself encodes a zinc finger transcription factor involved in RAS-MAPK pathway regulation. Unlike the functional *RREB1* gene, this pseudogene does **not encode a functional protein** and is not known to play any independent biological or pathological role. Such pseudogenes **can complicate molecular studies** because they may be inadvertently detected in assays such as PCR, but they are **not drug or therapeutic targets**[2][5][3].

Biological functions

None (pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins or RNAs in most cases; regulatory roles are rare and not established for this locus)
03

Disease associations

None (no established role in disease, as it lacks protein-coding capacity)
