Ras suppressor protein 1 pseudogene 1 (RSU1P1)

Target

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Other (not a functional protein, receptor, or enzyme)

Overview

Ras suppressor protein 1 pseudogene 1 (RSU1P1) is a non-coding DNA sequence that resembles the *RSU1* gene, which encodes Ras suppressor protein 1. RSU1P1 does not produce a functional protein, but, like other pseudogenes, may transcribe RNA that could participate in gene regulation, such as acting as a molecular sponge for microRNAs, modulating chromatin structure, or influencing the expression of its parental gene RSU1[4][8][9]. However, there is currently no direct evidence that RSU1P1 functions in disease or as a therapeutic target—its role, if any, is likely limited to genome regulation at the RNA level.

Biological functions

Possible regulatory roles at the RNA level (e.g., competing for miRNAs, regulating parental gene expression, chromatin architecture), as seen for other pseudogenesNo confirmed protein-based function
03

Disease associations

No direct disease association; pseudogenes may participate in disease via regulatory RNA effects, but specific *RSU1P1* disease relevance is not currently documented
