Overview

RASA3 intronic transcript 1 (RASA3-IT1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) originating from intronic regions of the RASA3 gene. It does not encode protein and has no known direct biological function or role in disease. It should not be confused with the RASA3 gene (Ras GTPase-activating protein 3), which encodes a protein critical for Ras signaling, hematopoiesis, and is involved in various disorders. No drugs or clinical interventions are associated with RASA3-IT1. The entry may reflect a misinterpretation or overly broad query if the intent was to identify a therapeutically actionable target[1][3]. The RASA3 gene refers to the protein-coding gene important in Ras signaling[2][4][5][9], whereas “RASA3 intronic transcript 1” (RASA3-IT1) is a noncoding transcript with currently uncharacterized function and no role as a direct drug target or biomarker[3]. Most databases (GeneCards, Ensembl, UniProt, NCBI Gene) provide very limited information on RASA3-IT1 and do not connect it to protein function, pathology, or therapeutic relevance. This entry is not a recognized therapeutic target and is sometimes confused with the protein-coding parent gene (RASA3), which is a bona fide signaling and disease-related gene. No evidence supports a role for RASA3-IT1 as a receptor, enzyme, or direct molecular target. For research or structured biomedical applications, use "Ras GTPase-activating protein 3 (RASA3)" if referring to the protein/gene target[2][4][9], not "RASA3 intronic transcript 1".
