Overview

RASAL2 antisense RNA 1 (RASAL2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the RASAL2 gene and does not encode a protein[6]. It is upregulated in certain cancers, especially head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), where high expression correlates with worse patient survival[5]. Functionally, RASAL2-AS1 promotes cancer cell proliferation, colony formation, and cell cycle progression, and enhances cell migration and invasion. Mechanistically, RASAL2-AS1 interacts with and modulates the expression of METTL14, a key m^6A RNA methyltransferase, thereby impacting m^6A modification and affecting the stability and translation of target mRNAs such as LIS1, which participate in oncogenic processes[5]. RASAL2-AS1 is a regulator of gene expression at the post-transcriptional level and contributes to cancer progression, but is not itself a drug target, receptor, or enzyme. It currently serves as a biomarker of disease prognosis in HNSCC[5][6].
