Overview

RASSF8 antisense RNA 1 (RASSF8-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcript located on chromosome 12, opposite to the RASSF8 coding gene[3]. It is regulated as an antisense RNA and may bind and modulate RASSF8 mRNA, either promoting its degradation or inhibiting its translation, thus influencing RASSF8 protein levels in cells[5]. RASSF8-AS1 is upregulated in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, where it appears to play an oncogenic role and serves as a sensitive and specific blood exosomal biomarker for diagnosing and predicting prognosis in ESCC[2][4]. Its increased expression correlates with tumor progression and stage[2]. The transcript impacts cell proliferation, tumor immunity, and metabolism, but no drugs are currently known to target it directly. There are no reported adverse safety findings or therapeutic liabilities associated with RASSF8-AS1. Its role is principally as a modulator of tumor suppressor activity, via its antisense interaction with RASSF8 mRNA, and as a non-invasive biomarker in oncology[2][4][5].
