Overview

RBBP8 antisense RNA 1 (RBBP8-AS1, also known as AC090912.1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) classified specifically as a natural antisense transcript (NAT). It is transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to the protein-coding gene RBBP8. As with other antisense RNAs, it is believed to play a role in the regulation of its sense (RBBP8) gene’s expression, chiefly through mechanisms such as transcriptional interference and chromatin remodeling. These lncNATs may impact gene expression at the levels of transcription and translation by mechanisms including promoter competition, occlusion, or dislodgement of RNA polymerase, although detailed functional characterization specific to RBBP8-AS1 has not been published. RBBP8-AS1 is not recognized as a traditional therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or protein; instead, its classification as a regulatory RNA places it primarily in the field of gene expression modulation research rather than classical drug targeting[3][5][6][2].
