RBM12B antisense RNA 1 (RBM12B-AS1)

Target
RBM12B-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)
01

Overview

RBM12B antisense RNA 1 (RBM12B-AS1) is a non-coding RNA gene classified as a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA). It does not encode a protein and its functional role in human biology, if any, remains poorly understood and uncharacterized in the scientific literature. RBM12B-AS1 is listed with multiple aliases, including C8orf39 and PRO1905, but is distinct from the protein-coding gene RBM12 (RNA binding motif protein 12), which has a documented role as a post-transcriptional regulator of fetal hemoglobin. There are currently no drugs known to interact with RBM12B-AS1, it is not used as a biomarker, and it has not been implicated as a therapeutic target or disease gene. The lncRNA RBM12B-AS1 should not be confused with the protein-coding gene RBM12, which is a distinct gene involved in the regulation of hemoglobin switching and post-transcriptional mRNA regulation. No protein product or receptor function is attributed to RBM12B-AS1.
