RBMS3 antisense RNA 3 (RBMS3-AS3)

Target
RBMS3-AS3
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Other
01

Overview

RBMS3 antisense RNA 3 (RBMS3-AS3) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the RBMS3 gene, and is not translated into protein. RBMS3-AS3 has been implicated in cancer biology, especially as a tumor suppressor in prostate cancer, where it inhibits proliferation, migration, invasion, and tumorigenesis by acting as a microRNA-4534 sponge. Its upregulation leads to increased expression of VASH1, an anti-angiogenic protein. While its main role appears regulatory at the transcript level, especially via competing endogenous RNA networks, more research may clarify its function in other diseases or pathways.

Other names
RBMS3 antisense RNA 3 (non-protein coding)RBMS3-AS3
02

Mechanism of action

Acts as a ceRNA/microRNA sponge for miR-4534, relieving inhibition of VASH1 (vasohibin 1), thereby inhibiting cancer cell progression

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (functions as a competing endogenous RNA, or ceRNA)Acts as a microRNA sponge, particularly for miR-4534, thereby upregulating target genesInhibits cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis in some cancer contexts
04

Disease associations

Cancer (notably involved in prostate cancer and possibly other malignancies as a tumor suppressor lncRNA)
05

Biomarkers

Potential prognostic biomarker for cancer outcomes (e.g., prostate cancer)
