Overview

RBMX2 pseudogene 2 (RBMX2P2) is a noncoding, nonfunctional segment of DNA related in sequence to the functional gene RBMX2, but it does not produce a functional RNA or protein product. Pseudogenes like RBMX2P2 are typically considered evolutionary remnants and are not used as therapeutic targets. No direct biological or clinical significance, disease associations, or drug interactions have been reported for RBMX2P2. Most available scientific and clinical interest is focused on RBMX2, the functional gene, not the pseudogene. Context and clarification: - The functional gene, RBMX2 (“RNA binding motif protein X-linked 2”), is a component of the spliceosome and has been implicated in pre-mRNA splicing and possibly in neurological diseases such as intellectual disability and bipolar disorder. - “RBMX2 pseudogene 2” is not the same as RBMX2, has no known protein product, and is not a therapeutic target.
