RBPJ pseudogene 2 (RBPJP2) is a non-protein-coding, nonfunctional genomic sequence corresponding to the RBPJ gene family. Pseudogenes like RBPJP2 typically arise by gene duplication or retrotransposition and accumulate disabling mutations; they do not produce functional proteins and have no established role as drug targets or biomarkers. The canonical RBPJ gene, in contrast, encodes a critical transcription factor of the CSL (CBF1/Suppressor of Hairless/LAG-1) family, serving as the primary DNA-binding mediator of Notch signaling, controlling cell fate, differentiation, and multiple disease processes including developmental disorders and cancer.
