RCC2 antisense RNA 1 (RCC2-AS1), also known as LCPAT1 (Lung cancer progression-association transcript 1, ENST00000439577), is a long non-coding RNA located at chromosome 1p36.13. It is highly expressed in non-small cell lung cancer and has been functionally linked to tumor progression, poor patient survival, and enhanced autophagy in lung cancer cells. Mechanistically, RCC2-AS1/LCPAT1 may interact with the coding gene RCC2 and is implicated in regulating autophagy, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and the DNA damage response in the context of carcinogen exposures like cigarette smoke and particulate matter. Experimental reduction of RCC2-AS1/LCPAT1 inhibits tumor growth and autophagy in lung cancer models. No direct therapeutic agents currently target this molecule, but its expression may serve as a biomarker of lung cancer prognosis and progression[2][1][3].
Not applicable for drugs, as there are no known direct drugs targeting RCC2-AS1/LCPAT1. Antisense knockdown and RNA interference approaches reduce its expression, which suppresses tumor growth and autophagy in experimental models[2][1].
