RDH10 antisense RNA 1 (RDH10-AS1)

Target
RDH10-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA, Other
01

Overview

RDH10 antisense RNA 1 (RDH10-AS1) is a natural antisense long non-coding RNA transcribed from the opposite strand of the RDH10 gene. Antisense lncRNAs like RDH10-AS1 are involved in complex regulation of gene expression at multiple levels, including chromatin remodeling, alternative splicing, and RNA stability. Recent RNA sequencing and expression studies have demonstrated that RDH10-AS1 is upregulated in osteosarcoma tissue and cell lines compared to healthy bone, suggesting it plays a role in tumor development, progression, and potentially resistance to therapy. Its upregulation and cancer association make it a candidate therapeutic target and diagnostic biomarker in cancer research

02

Mechanism of action

Not established for drugs; as a lncRNA, RDH10-AS1 modulates gene expression, potentially affecting the function or transcription of its sense gene counterpart (RDH10), or other cellular signaling pathways

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expressionEpigenetic modificationAlternative splicingRNA stability control
04

Disease associations

Cancer (notably upregulated in osteosarcoma; associated with tumor progression and possibly metastasis and therapy resistance)
05

Safety considerations

No specific safety concerns or therapeutic challenges reported yet; being a novel non-coding RNA target, challenges may include delivery and specificity typical of lncRNA-targeted approaches
06

Biomarkers

Potential biomarker for osteosarcoma and tumor profiling
