Overview

ReBOSSIS is a synthetic, cotton-like bone void-filling scaffold composed of beta-tricalcium phosphate (beta-TCP), silicated calcium carbonate, and poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) (OrthoRebirth Co., Ltd.; FDA K142355). It is engineered to mimic the natural extracellular matrix of bone, providing a high-porosity, three-dimensional microenvironment that facilitates the attachment, migration, and proliferation of osteogenic cells (PubMed: 25615478). As a medical device rather than a biological target, it functions through osteoconduction, acting as a temporary structural template that supports new bone formation while undergoing gradual bioresorption and replacement by host bone (Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B). It is primarily indicated for filling bony voids or gaps in the skeletal system that are not intrinsic to the stability of the bone structure, such as those resulting from trauma or surgical excision (FDA K142355). While it does not possess a traditional pharmacological mechanism of action, its surface chemistry and topography are critical for modulating the biological response and ensuring successful osseointegration (OrthoRebirth).
