Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor Kappa Beta Ligand (RANKL)

Target
RANKL
Molecular classification
Type II transmembrane protein, Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) superfamily member, Cytokine, Ligand
01

Overview

Receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa beta ligand (RANKL) is a type II transmembrane protein and a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) cytokine family. It plays a central role in bone metabolism, immune regulation, and several pathological processes by binding to its receptor RANK on osteoclast precursors, inducing their differentiation, activation, and survival. RANKL is also involved in immune system functions, including dendritic cell maturation and T cell regulation. Dysregulation of RANKL is implicated in osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer, making it a therapeutic target for monoclonal antibodies.
