Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor-kappaB (RANK)

Target
RANK
Molecular classification
Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member, Receptor
01

Overview

Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor-kappaB (RANK) is a type I transmembrane receptor expressed on osteoclast precursors and mature osteoclasts. It is essential for osteoclast differentiation, activation, and survival. Binding of its ligand, RANKL, initiates signaling cascades that lead to the expression of genes required for osteoclastogenesis and bone resorption. OPG acts as a decoy receptor for RANKL, inhibiting its interaction with RANK.
