Receptor-Binding Domain of Spike Glycoprotein (RBD)

Target
RBD
Molecular classification
Protein Domain, Viral Protein, Glycoprotein
01

Overview

The receptor-binding domain (RBD) is a critical region within the spike (S) glycoprotein of coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2. It is responsible for binding to host cell receptors, facilitating viral entry into target cells. The RBD is located within the S1 subunit of the spike protein and directly interacts with cellular receptors such as angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) in SARS-CoV-2. It is a major target for neutralizing antibodies and a key component in vaccine development.
