Receptor-like protein (RLP) refers to a class of cell surface receptors predominantly found in plants, typically characterized by extracellular leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domains, a transmembrane region, but lacking an intracellular kinase domain[4][5]. RLPs play essential roles in detecting external signals, especially those associated with pathogen attack, and activate immune responses and other physiological processes critical for plant growth, development, and stress adaptation[4][2]. These proteins are members of a broader family of cell surface receptors (including receptor-like kinases, RLKs) and are structurally related to them, though RLPs lack the intracellular kinase activity seen in RLKs[4][5]. RLPs are key to plant innate immunity, acting as pattern recognition receptors that mediate activation of defense signaling upon recognition of pathogen-associated molecular patterns or endogenous signals[4][8]. While not themselves targets of conventional drugs, RLPs are considered central to plant biotechnology and crop improvement efforts aiming to boost disease resistance.
