Target intelligence / Profile preview
HER4, also known as ERBB4, is a member of the ErbB family of receptor tyrosine kinases. It functions as a cell surface receptor for neuregulins and other EGF family ligands. HER4 plays essential roles in development and maintenance of cardiovascular and nervous systems, mammary gland development, regulation of gene transcription, cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. Its role in cancer is complex, acting as both a tumor suppressor and promoter depending on context. Small molecule inhibitors such as lapatinib target the kinase domain.
Inhibition of tyrosine kinase activity by stabilizing inactive kinase conformation.
