Overview

Receptor-transporting protein 5 (RTP5) is a human protein encoded by the RTP5 gene (also known as C2orf85, CXXC11, Z3CXXC5), predicted to possess a CXXC-type zinc finger domain[3][6]. RTP5 is primarily implicated in the molecular processes of olfactory receptor binding and is thought to play a role in the detection of bitter taste and in protein insertion/targeting to membranes[3][4][6]. It is predicted to be a membrane-associated protein, rather than a classical transporter or receptor, with a primary function in sensory perception processes. There is no current evidence designating RTP5 as a direct therapeutic target or as the molecular target of approved drugs. While associations exist with rare diseases, these are not well established or mechanistically defined.
