Recombinase A Homolog 1 (RAD51)

Target
RAD51
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Recombinase, ATPase
01

Overview

RAD51 recombinase is a highly conserved protein in eukaryotes that plays a central role in homologous recombination (HR), a critical pathway for the repair of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). It is essential for maintaining genomic stability, preventing mutations, and supporting accurate DNA replication and cell division. Misregulation or mutation in RAD51 can lead to genomic instability associated with cancer predisposition syndromes. Overexpression has been linked with resistance mechanisms against chemotherapy-induced apoptosis in certain cancers—making it both a biomarker and potential therapeutic target.
