Regulatory B Cell (Breg)

Target
Breg
Molecular classification
B cell, Lymphocyte, Immune cell
01

Overview

Regulatory B cells (Bregs) are a subset of B lymphocytes with immunosuppressive functions, primarily through the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-10, IL-35 and TGF-β. They play a critical role in maintaining immunological tolerance and preventing autoimmunity. Breg development is induced by inflammatory signals such as TLR ligands, BCR engagement and costimulatory molecules. Aberrant Breg function is implicated in various diseases, including autoimmune disorders, allergies, infections, cancer, and transplant rejection. While they hold therapeutic potential for suppressing excessive immune responses, safety concerns exist regarding their potential to promote infection or tumor growth.
