Overview

Relaxin Family Peptide Receptor 2 (RXFP2) is a G protein-coupled receptor primarily activated by insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3). It plays a crucial role in male reproductive development, specifically testicular descent. RXFP2 couples mainly to G_s proteins, leading to increased cAMP production, though it can also couple to some members of the G_i/G_o family. Mutations in RXFP2 are linked to cryptorchidism. While primarily known for its role in reproduction, RXFP2 is also implicated in connective tissue formation, bone metabolism, and potentially cardiovascular function and tissue remodeling.
