The pharmacological mechanism involves both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and modern biological pathways. In TCM, it works by dispelling wind-heat and clearing liver-fire to resolve ocular opacities (nebula). Modern research indicates that herbs with this function act through the inhibition of pro-inflammatory signaling pathways such as TLR4/NF-κB and MAPK, as well as the activation of antioxidant pathways like PI3K/Akt/Nrf2 and HO-1 to reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) and prevent apoptosis in corneal or retinal cells.
