Renal cortical cells are the primary cell types found in the renal cortex, which is the outer region of the kidney. The renal cortex contains key structures involved in blood filtration and urine formation, including glomeruli, proximal convoluted tubules (PCT), distal convoluted tubules (DCT), and associated blood vessels. These cells play essential roles in maintaining homeostasis by filtering blood, reabsorbing nutrients, secreting waste products, and producing hormones. Dysfunction of these cells is implicated in various diseases, including acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease.
