Renal dehydropeptidase I (DPEP1) is a membrane-bound glycoprotein enzyme predominantly found in the kidney. Its primary function is to hydrolyze dipeptides and other compounds, including beta-lactam antibiotics like imipenem. Inhibition of DPEP1 by cilastatin is crucial for the therapeutic efficacy of imipenem.
