Overview

Replicase polyprotein 1ab is a large, multifunctional protein encoded by the ORF1ab gene of coronaviruses. It plays a central role in viral RNA synthesis and processing during infection. The polyprotein is initially synthesized as a single long polypeptide that undergoes proteolytic cleavage to generate multiple non-structural proteins (nsps), which are essential for viral replication and transcription.
