Replication factor C 3 pseudogene 1 (RFC3P1) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome, sharing sequence homology with the protein-coding gene RFC3, which encodes the 38 kDa subunit of the replication factor C complex[4][6]. As a pseudogene, RFC3P1 is not expected to produce a functional protein, and there is no evidence that it is transcribed or translated to perform a canonical biological role in DNA replication or repair. Pseudogenes can sometimes play regulatory roles at the RNA level, for example by acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) that modulate gene expression through microRNA sponging, but there is currently no published evidence that RFC3P1 is functional or involved in disease[2][6]. It is not considered a therapeutic target, biomarker, or safety concern. The closely related protein-coding gene, RFC3, is part of the replication factor C complex important for DNA replication, cell cycle, and tumorigenesis, but RFC3P1 itself is not implicated in these processes[1][4][6].
