Overview

Replication initiator 1 (REPIN1) is a sequence-specific DNA-binding protein essential for the initiation of chromosomal DNA replication in humans. It contains three polydactyl zinc finger clusters comprising 15 zinc finger DNA-binding motifs, enabling it to bind specifically to ATT-rich and T-rich sequences near replication origins and facilitate DNA bending. REPIN1 is located in the nucleoplasm and may regulate transcription through RNA polymerase II. It also has predicted roles in regulating the expression of genes involved in fatty acid transport, lipid droplet formation, and glucose import. REPIN1 is expressed in several human tissues, with especially high expression in adipose tissue and liver. The full physiological functions and disease associations of REPIN1 are still being elucidated, though it may be a potential therapeutic target for obesity and metabolic disorders[1][2][3][4][7].
